Emerson Charitable Trust
For many years, Emerson Electric Co. and the Emerson Charitable Trust have contributed to the advancement of Missouri S&T, and the education of future scientists and engineers, as one of the university’s valued partners: recruiting graduates and interns, investing in research, sharing professional expertise, and providing financial support.
A St. Louis-based electrical products manufacturer for more 120 years, Emerson Electric was founded in 1890 by two brothers interested in developing uses for the alternating-current electric motor. The company is named for John Emerson, a former Missouri judge and U.S. marshal who provided financing for the company and served as its first president.
Today Emerson Electric encompasses 80 business units in more than 235 locations. The company manufactures electrical, electromechanical and electronic products used to control gases, liquids and electricity, with a full-service focus on process management, industrial automation, network power, climate technologies, and commercial and residential solutions.
The Emerson Charitable Trust supports local organizations, promotes volunteerism, sponsors education, and provides services to those in need.
A number of Missouri S&T graduates work for the company, which has approximately 135,000 employees and annual revenues exceeding $24 billion.
Now, in affirmation of its partnership with Missouri S&T, Emerson Charitable Trust has established a permanent source of scholarship support for undergraduate students in any discipline, with preference given to African Americans. In keeping with the donor’s wishes, the Emerson Electric Co. Endowed Scholarship will provide the innovators and leaders of the future with the opportunity to pursue their hopes and dreams at Missouri S&T.
