Stephen H. McVeigh
As a member of the Missouri S&T Academy of Civil Engineers, the Academy of Miner Athletics and Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Order of the Golden Shillelagh, Stephen H. McVeigh has advanced the university’s mission with the gift of his leadership, athletic legacy and financial support. Now, through a pledge, he has generously chosen to establish the Stephen H. McVeigh Endowed Scholarship for Civil Engineering, a permanent source of scholarship support for undergraduates majoring in civil engineering.
Stephen graduated from Missouri S&T in 1972 with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering and went to work in the oil and gas exploration and production industry. In a distinguished career with the Royal Dutch Shell companies, he served as an engineer and executive in the domestic and international upstream divisions, retiring after 32 years.
As the CEO of Sakhalin Energy Investment Co. from 2000 to 2004, Stephen spearheaded the first offshore oil and gas development project in Russia. Under his leadership, this $10 billion joint venture between the Russian Federation, Shell, Mitsui and Mitsubishi became the largest integrated oil, gas and liquid natural gas development project in history.
Now, through the permanent funding provided by the Stephen H. McVeigh Endowed Scholarship for Civil Engineering, aspiring civil engineers will have the financial support to pursue their professional goals for generations to come.
